The sexiest woman in the world! Twice!! What do you have to say to that...
It's funny thing. You know the nice thing about it is for some reason I used to always notice the FHM 100 Sexiest Women In The World list when I was in London. It was like an annual event. It is something my sisters are aware of. So now, when I tell them, they are like, “Ha ha ha... that's really nice!” They know what it is all about. It's really nice you know. The way I see it... in twenty years' time, I can look back and say, I was voted the sexiest in the world. That's the way I see it... more as something fun. It is also one of the things that I really enjoy. I also enjoy doing your shoot. I've enjoyed it all the more this year because this year the shoot is more about me and less about the clothes so that the readers of FHM get to see my playful side, my sensual side. Not just “I am standing here” or “I want to look like a model” or “I want to be glamourous”.. I wanted to give the pictures a little bit of an edge and that is why I even selected the clothes I have been very particular.
How was life before modelling?
The first bit of modelling I did was in Hawaii. My pictures during that particular period recently surfaced on one of the websites (laughs). Those weren't the modeling pictures but just me on a beach... Then, I moved to London when I was around 14. 14, 15, 16 I was in London. 17, I came to India. While I was in London, it was a normal teenage life. I was technically in college. I was studying engineering... at a very interesting college.
Interesting... as in?
A very colourful college, lets put it that way. Rowdy bunch of people... (laughs)
And hold on a sec, did you just say engineering?
Ya, but I was always skipping classes. Teachers knew I had no interest in the studies, they were like, "Katrina, engineering is not for you!" And I was like, "No, no, no... It really is...!!" I would go back to making the middle clamp or whatever that I was supposed to be making and they were like, "Yeah, yeah.... go ahead Katrina" Actually, I was never there... I started to dabble a little bit in modelling, a bit here and there. Around the age of 17, I was not fitting into that 'very very skinny' requirement of being a model. That was when I said, maybe I should come to India and see what it is like here... I had gotten one job offer with Farrukh. Those were just my experimental days of seeing what life is all about. Realising that engineering was not for me...
And what is your opinion of Indian men?
For the most part they are really very well mannered. They have this shy quality about them that I think is endearing. Along with the inherent understanding of how to respect a woman and how never to cross the line... as I said, for most part and there are exceptions. But there is a certain respect and dignity with which they interact with a woman. They just don't throw themselves at a woman.
