Trend alert: Shorts with semi-formal jackets

From designers Vivek Karunakaran to Chaitanya Rao and many others, we spotted a rather unique trend in their men's wear collection at the Spring summer 2010 Lakme fashion week. The trend in talk is...behold.. shorts with semi-formal jackets! So we couldn't help but wonder is this rather interesting combination going to usher in a new furor in man's fashion? Vivek Karunakaran who presented his collection viia during the Lakme fashion week certainly thinks so. Representing the global traveler who stands arrested by the simplicity of Indian living and yet dazzled by its aching brilliancy, his collection captured the styles embraced by the nawabs who played polo on hot summer afternoons. It included sophisticated silhouettes, structured shirts, countered bottoms and an interesting combination of subtle as well as vibrant colours.

This is what he had to say about his men's wear collection, " The look is very chic. What you saw was a detailing contrast of cropped pants and semi formal jacket. It has this edgy feel to it." So how do you keep to this look and not land up looking like someone who confused his casuals with formals? Apart from the golden rule of being comfortable in what you wear, Vivek gives us some basic and easy to follow rules, "Keep in mind the occasion that you are wearing it to. Make sure there is a balance of colours. If your attire is subtle, you can go crazy with the jacket. If one part of the attire has a lot of detailing, the others should be clean. The key is to have a balance of things. Also if you don't have the legs, or have the legs that are too hairy, you may want to keep away."

Coming to the next question. What is the basic mistake people tend to make in terms of fashion? " To begin with there is a need even with woman to start with fitness. You cannot wear a top with your belly bulging off. Also stick to the colours that go with your skin tone," replies Vivek.

And lastly we had to ask what does the future in fashion hold? Vivek answers, "The cropped pants are going to become shorter, in the future hot pants might come in to trend. Looking forward to that."

Men and woman roaming around the streets in hot pants..now that is certainly something to look forward to!
