A.R. Rahman is the new face of Brooke Bond Taj Mahal Tea, and yes, he says 'Wah Taj!'

Hindustan Unilever has signed Oscar and Grammy winner A.R. Rahman as brand ambassador for Brooke Bond Taj Mahal Tea, launching a new platform called 'Awaken Your Masterpiece' with a film made by Ogilvy India.

A. R. Rahman

A.R. Rahman has a new studio companion, and it comes in a cup. Hindustan Unilever (HUL) has named the Oscar and Grammy-winning composer the brand ambassador of Brooke Bond Taj Mahal Tea, announcing the partnership on 2 November 2026 alongside a new brand platform called Awaken Your Masterpiece. The first campaign film, starring Rahman himself, is already live across the brand's digital and marketing platforms.

What happens in the film

The plot is one every creative person in India will recognise: Rahman is stuck. The melody won't come, the keys stay silent, and the deadline (we assume) is breathing down his neck. So he does what millions of us do at 4 pm on a bad day. He reaches for a freshly brewed cup of Taj Mahal Tea. The pause works, an uplifting tune arrives, and the film signs off with a joyful 'Wah Taj!', the line that has been part of the brand's identity for decades.

The idea behind Awaken Your Masterpiece is simple. Creative blocks are not a failure, the brand argues, but a signal to stop, recharge and let the idea settle. Tea, naturally, is pitched as that purposeful pause.

Who made it

The campaign comes from Ogilvy India, with the creative work led by Fritz Gonsalves and Jayesh Raut. The film was shot by Prakash Varma of Nirvana Films, who has shaped the brand's visual language for more than a decade. If the frames look warm and unhurried, that is very much the point.

The film: Rahman is stuck on a tune, reaches for a fresh cup, finds the melody and signs off with 'Wah Taj!'

Ishtpreet Singh, Vice President, Beverages at HUL, said Taj Mahal Tea and music have been "inseparable" over the decades, a bond that began with Ustad Zakir Hussain and the iconic 'Wah Taj!'. To carry it forward, he said there could be "no better custodian than A.R. Rahman, an artist whose genius is truly one in a thousand", comparing Rahman's hunt for the perfect note to the way the brand selects and blends its tea leaves.

Ogilvy India's Group Chief Creative Officers, Harshad Rajadhyaksha and Kainaz Karmakar, said the brand's story of finesse and the search for excellence "sits really well with everything that A R Rahman stands for."

The music thread runs deep. HUL says the brand's bond with music began with Ustad Zakir Hussain and the iconic 'Wah Taj!

Why this signing makes sense

Brooke Bond Taj Mahal has built its image around fine tea-making for over six decades, with the tagline Hazaaron Mein Ek (one in a thousand) celebrating people who have mastered their craft. For years, that mastery had a face and a sound: the late tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, whose 'Wah Taj!' became one of Indian advertising's most quoted lines.

Picking a successor for that legacy was never going to be easy. A cricketer or a film hero would have sold more packets in the short run, perhaps, but it would have broken the music thread that defines the brand. Rahman keeps that thread intact, and he brings appeal that stretches from Chennai to Chandigarh, across Tamil, Hindi and international audiences.

Where to watch

The Awaken Your Masterpiece film is live on Brooke Bond Taj Mahal Tea's official digital and marketing platforms, so expect to see it on your phone long before you see it on a hoarding. HUL has not shared any further details of the media plan.

The FHM take

This is the rare celebrity signing that feels earned rather than bought. Rahman does not need to act, dance or deliver a punchline. He just needs to look stuck, sip, and find the tune, which is the most believable thing a brand film can ask of a composer. Swapping one maestro for another keeps 'Wah Taj!' honest. Now we only hope the melody in the ad turns into a full track, because a three-minute Rahman tea anthem is something we would happily put on repeat.
