Hinge's India reboot: a waitlist for new users, no screenshots, and a nod from Match Group
Hinge's India-only waitlist and Screenshot Protection got a shout-out on Match Group's Q3 earnings call. Here's what changed and what it means for Indian singles.

Hinge has quietly rebuilt itself for India – and its parent company says the move is paying off. On its third-quarter earnings call on 2 November 2026, Match Group chief financial officer Steve Bailey told analysts, "We have relaunched in India, where we have a pretty big MAU base today." CEO Spencer Rascoff pointed to the India-only touches behind it, describing "screenshot banning" and a "wait list for men".
The waitlist: build first, swipe later
Under the new system, some new members are placed on a phased waitlist after they create a profile. While they wait, they can add photos, answer Prompts and verify their profile, but they cannot like or match anyone yet. Hinge's stated aim is simple: get people to build complete, thoughtful profiles before they start connecting.

Screenshots? Not on these screens
The second India exclusive is Screenshot Protection. On screens that show personal details – profiles in Discover, Likes You and Standouts – screenshots are blocked in India. Conversations can still be captured, so anyone who needs to report a concern has the evidence they need.
It is a direct answer to a very Indian worry: your profile turning up in a college WhatsApp group or a family chat. Hinge's announcement also lists Face Check, which confirms that the person behind an account is real, and a Block List at sign-up that lets you avoid seeing – or being seen by – people you already know, such as an ex, a colleague or a relative. Trade magazine afaqs! reported that the update also brings Signals, a Comment Filter and Match Note to Indian users.

Why Match Group is talking about India
In other words, the India playbook – slower starts, more privacy, fewer creeps – is now part of the pitch to investors, not just to singles.
What it means for you
- Expect a wait: if you are placed on the waitlist, use it to polish your photos and Prompts and to verify your profile.
- Use the Block List: set it up at sign-up if you would rather not bump into your ex or your team lead.
- Don't rely on screenshots: profiles can't be captured in India, so judge a match on the chat, not on a forwarded picture.
- Check the extras: Face Check and the Comment Filter are part of the same India update, so explore them from day one.
