How to Make a Splint
Assess, prepare, execute: the three steps to splinting a broken limb with nothing more than strong sticks or a rolled-up newspaper.

1 Assess
Firstly, do not try to realign any broken bones or attempt to reposition the injured area in any way. You are just looking to prevent further damage to the limb. Just try to keep the patient calm and clean any wounds before you do anything else.
2 Prepare
Use something rigid to construct the splint from, making sure it is longer than the injured area to keep it from moving. Strong sticks are ideal. A rolled up newspaper can be used at a push. If possible, the splint should extend to the joints above and below the injured area, for maximum stability.

3 Execute
Secure the splint by tying around it above and below the injury. DO NOT tie around the injury itself, or you risk further damage and a screaming fit of anger from your pained patient. Depending on the severity of the wound, the injured party may now be able to walk with you to seek medical attention – or you may need to construct a stretcher. Good luck!
