Life As We Know It

After you’ve tied the knot, the world is your oyster. There are so many places you can go to enjoy your newlywed status and revel in some intimate time together. But how do you choose? Don’t worry because we have got your covered.

Life As We Know It

Lake Como, Italy

Northern Italy’s seductively beautiful lakes district — in the shadow of the Alps — seems heaven-sent for communing with nature. Though just an hour north of Milan, this area feels a world away from the business and bustle of Italy’s second city. Lake Como is lined with luxurious villas, crowned by snowcapped mountains, and busy with fleets of little ferries darting from one cute town to another. The most famous town is Bellagio, the self-proclaimed “Pearl of the Lake” — a combination of old-world classiness and new-world luxury. Steep steps rise from the harborfront up to a smattering of sun-splashed squares. With spendy five-star hotels and high-end shopping, Bellagio pleases well-heeled travelers.

Kohala Coast, Big Island, Hawaii

Royalty has a way of choosing the best places to live. On the Big Island of Hawaii, King Kamehameha and the generations of dominant kings left no doubt about their judgment on the choicest site. They favored the sunny west side of the island, the Kona and Kohala region coasts. Their abodes remain important historic shrines today. Hawaii and honeymoon are rather synonymous, but venture of the beaten path a little bit and head to the Kohala Coast of the Big Island, where one of the most swimmable beaches - the Hapuna Beach is located. Adventures can go flight-seeing on a helicopter experience or take a nighttime snorkel to view manta rays.

Nova Scotia, Canada

Expect a warm welcome when you travel to Nova Scotia, Canada, where the locals’ friendliness is as legendary as the rolling terrain. Bordering the Atlantic, Nova Scotia’s coastline extends for miles and offers stunning vistas for picture-taking as well as placid waters for fishing. Travellers often flock to the hiking trails of Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton, which offer sweeping views of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. South Shore is Nova Scotia’s most visited coastline, home to picturesque lighthouses, pristine white beaches and former fishing towns that have opened their doors to tourists. Halifax is the province’s party central, full of bars, nightclubs and summer music festivals that draw a young and vibrant crowd. Beyond the coastal views and urban party scenes, there’s plenty more for one to explore.

Namibia, Africa

Namibia, Africa

A honeymoon in Namibia can be stunning - just imagine sleeping under the sparkling stars, whilst the Namib’s red desert dunes and the Naukluft Mountains isolate you from the outside world. Many camps have lovely honeymoon suites, often set in tranquil spots away from the rest of the camp, to ensure maximum privacy. Namibia offers a romantic honeymoon, in picture perfect scenery. Some of the world’s most impressive sand dunes, others dusted in pinkish garnet sand; a seemingly never-ending desert so bare it invites mind-boggling mirages, fiery sunset skies made moody by subtle trails of dust obscuring zebras or giraffes just enough to make it even more magical, and a long, unforgiving coastline of sometimes angry, sometimes sparkling blue icy Atlantic waves. It’s landscapes like these that are the truest signature of Namibia, as a place contrasts where beauty can be realized in the tiniest of details or the vastness of a wide swath of nothingness.

The Azores, Portugal

The Azores are located right in the centre of the Atlantic Ocean, almost mid-way between the west coast of Europe and the east of the United States. There are nine islands altogether — all of them inhabited — and because they’re so compact, it makes perfect sense to work one or two of them into a layover between Europe and North America. The mild weather, warm water and variety of the coastline also make the Azores a year-round destination for watersports. The attractions for sailors are obvious and Azorean harbours host a calendar of regattas and events. Horta, the main town of Faial, is the cosmopolitan centre of this transatlantic traffic, and its marina has become an open-air gallery of murals painted by superstitious crews before they depart on their voyages. The Azores enjoys a balmy climate year-round, so make your Azores travel plans at your leisure.
