Micromax Doodle 2

The most expensive Micromax to hit shelves: FHM reviews the 5.7-inch Doodle 2.

Micromax Doodle 2

Today, mobile manufacturers are doing what they do best — make hay while the sun shines, and Micromax is the forerunner on that front.

The 5.7 inch smartphone is nothing less than a beauty to look at. The white front coupled with an aluminium back makes it a great blend of simplicity with class. The aluminium casing does however make it a little heavier, while at the same time giving it a premium feel. The seamlessly built body does not leave any room for complaints though, besides the fact that maneuverability might be a tedious task, owing to its big size. Touch works seamlessly while surfing the net, or playing games. The 1.2 GHz dual core processor and 1 GB RAM aren’t the best out there, but surprisingly they don’t lag in performance.

So what does one actually do with a phone so big? We stayed glued to their smartphones throughout the day — thanks to endless options of games and applications that keep us engaged through office hours. And a phone this big could only mean more engaging sessions of action packed games. With the aid of an OTG cable (not included with the phone), we were able to download Asphalt: Airborne 8 and trust us, the game was a complete feast to play on this phone. We however did face problems while downloading Real Racing 3, so we eventually got rid of it and stuck to the Asphalt. The next best thing to do on a phone this big — watch videos. YouTube works well on this 1280x720 pixel screen and one can easily devour hours of videos on it.

Doodle 2 offers a 12 MP rear camera and 2 MP front camera, which stands at par with current market trends. The 12 MP camera is a delight for every photographer’s senses. Just step out in the open and there’s no stopping you. We observed very little disturbances, yet noticeable noise in the pictures we captured, and the shutter speed is a tad bit slow, as it takes time to focus on the object. Again, the phone comes with a stylus, but what stands out as a matter of concern is there is no provision for a stylus slot in the device. Not so smart, we say.

The phone runs on Android 4.2 and is preloaded with a plethora of Micromax’s native apps. With dual SIM capability and no room for micro SIM, Micromax has set its target correctly — those who want a good looking smartphone in the sub 20K segment. Although for the same price, you can try the upscale Huawei Ascend Mate or those who want to save some dough can also look at Spice Pinnacle FHD priced at ₹16,990.

Price: ₹19,990
