Multitude distressed too far

Recently, a French ready-to-wear brand boasts a white leather upper, yellow mesh accent, an exposed tongue and are completely, absurdly, and unbelievably destroyed. Don’t believe us?

Multitude distressed too far

A part of us thinks these outrageously expensive, absurd designer items are part of a grand fashion industry experiment to see how far designers can push the limits. The other part of us realizes that would lose too much practicality.

While brands have skipped the wearing process by offering distressed styled sneaker, luxury brand Maison Margiela is taking it one step further with its destroyed sneakers. Yes, in today's puzzling fashion news, Maison Margiela has released a pair of sneakers that appear to have been ravaged by wild animals, causing quite a stir online. Why, you ask? While vintage-inspired trends are popular, these sneakers seem a bit extreme with a hefty price tag.

It all began when the design house introduced the "Future Destroyed High-Top Sneaker," a name that might be an understatement. Neiman Marcus describes them as heavily distressed versions with torn leather pieces seemingly stapled to the shoe's body, making them worth more than you might imagine of the "Future" high-top sneaker. This style is very much in line with Maison Margiela's brand, which thrives on deconstructing and reconstructing items to create something entirely new and original.

Twitter users seem to reject this artistic approach and will walk barefoot instead.

Art is fashion, and fashion is art. In many ways, it's refreshing to see such an unexpected take on something we wear every day. However, Twitter users seem to reject this artistic approach for these sneakers and will walk barefoot instead. Many others shared the sentiment that the distressed look has been taken too far.

The real question is — is there a market for this? As if the fashion industry hadn't already challenged us enough in the last years, the brand’s "destroyed" sneakers feature chunks of the sneaker's exterior missing, the tongue slashed to reveal its stuffing, and any remaining leather scuffed beyond repair, these shoes are quite the statement.

For those seeking luxury sneakers that appear well-worn, Maison Margiela's Future Destroyed high-top sneaker is the perfect choice, endorsed by Kanye West and Katy Perry, showcasing heavy distressing and a deconstructed design. The final product looks as if it has been through a series of unfortunate events, including being chewed by dogs, left in the rain, and subjected to a sandblaster.

Imagine putting a shoe through a paper shredder, and you'll get a good idea of their appearance. So, if you still feel you can spend $1,500 on shoes that look like they're falling apart, you may.
