Nokia Lumia 1020: Say Goodbye to Point and Shoot Cameras

So what do you do with a 41MP camera phone besides taking excellent pictures? Is it useful for other things too? We find out…
Incorporating a 41 MP camera in a handheld smartphone would have been quite challenging at the time of this phone’s inception, but Nokia has managed to embed the camera quite holistically. The slim unibody design has made this phone look good without the absurdity factor of the Pureview 808. It measures 10.4 mm in thickness and weighs just 158 grams including the non-removable battery and camera. Speaking of the camera, the module bulge at the back will make it difficult for the phone to lie flat on a surface, however, it is sleeker by miles compared to the Galaxy S4 Zoom but relatively thicker than the HTC One, Galaxy S4, Xperia Z1 and iPhone 5S. Thankfully, Nokia has used a matte finish polycarbonate body to provide a better grip. The device adjusts nicely on the palms but one has to be careful about yours fingers covering the camera lens at the back. The phone sports a display of 1280X768 pixels and the 334 PPI (pixels per inch) makes the AMOLED screen look rather stellar. Now moving to the fun part — the imaging. Nokia has reworked on the aperture and with a wider angle, the Lumia 1020 is poised to capture better images in low light or under the sunlight. The Lumia 1020 supports a minimal focus distance of 15 cm and therefore, gives great macro shots with more manual controls. The lack of HDR has been replaced with Automatic Bracketing that allows the camera to capture three to five images in a stipulated exposure value range. Long story short, it will be really hard to find noise in the pictures you click in the 4:3 or 16:9 ratios, which this Lumia is bestowed with. Another blow to its rivals comes in the form of its clear, dynamic and flamboyant video quality. Thanks to the lossless zoom, capturing videos becomes quite simple for those addicted to vine.

Verdict
No doubt, the phone is a great image capturer, but spending 50k on a phone that wouldn’t grace you with useful third party apps would be asking for too much.
