Primp Affairé
A gentleman’s guide to making a lasting impression in 2019.

The modern man is self-indulgent. He likes to dress up, eat well and party hard. He demands products and services that are customised for him. He seeks a grooming routine that glorifies his mane, brightens his skin and tames his beard. Here are tips from grooming experts. “For a formal look, use hair care cream and styling wax to get a neat shiny look with a strong and medium hold. For a relaxed look, use a hair dressing solution on damp hair before you blow dry, which adds volume to your hair,”
Jay Kishan Pawar, Barber and Manager, Truefitt & Hill, Mumbai advises styling your hair according to your outfit. And if you are still clueless about styling your hair, get into character with this Mad Men inspired look by Adhuna Bhabani, founder and creative director, BBLUNT.

Hair
Freshly washed hair is the perfect canvas for this style. Use a good shampoo and conditioner to cleanse, condition and prep your hair.
- Step 1: On towel dried hair, apply a good hair cream to ready your hair for styling, especially if you’re using a heated styling tool.
- Step 2: For a stronger more lasting hold, apply gel evenly throughout the hair and then establish your side parting using a comb.
- Step 3: Take the brush and using a blow dryer direct your hair in place for a smooth finish.
Pro tip: To create this look you need to use a dryer and a brush. The low, sharp, side parting is the key to achieving this suave look.

Grooming is about a bunch of smart choices and moves. Men should refrain from shaving in a hurry. Before you start shaving, take a hot shower. Use a nice facial scrub (for face) or body exfoliating scrub (for body shaving) so your skin is already smooth. Make sure you sprinkle warm water on your face or body before shaving in order to avoid ingrown hair. Don’t forget to apply a good lotion after the shave. Men should go for pedicure services as well, as a good pedicure removes the dead skin from your feet quickly and efficiently.

Shower before the shave. Use a thick layer of foam or gel to retain water in the beard and maintain hair softness during the shave. Shave in the direction of your hair growth. If you want to nail the classic clean-shaven look, shave just before heading out and avoid the 5 o’clock shadow. Shave the facial hair on the sides with a good and sharp razor to create unique beard styles like the Italian Goatee, French Beard, Van Dyke, Anchor or stick with the simple and cool soul patch.

Wet your shaving brush with warm water, squeeze out excess water, and load the shaving cream or soap directly from the jar. Brush your face in repeated circular motions to get a lavish lather. Hold your razor at approximately 30 degrees to get the perfect shaving angle; rinse the blade with warm water after every two strokes. A shave should leave you with skin that is moisturised, replenished, and softened. A good after shave make your skin smooth, reduce redness, and leave you with a mild fragrance. Cleanse your skin using soap cleansers that are non-alcoholic and anti-pollution to remove dirt and grime.

Use a recovery/night cream that works hard throughout the night so that you wake up looking your best.

Use a moisturising beard shampoo every alternate day to help the beard retain its moisture, otherwise it could flake and cause beard dandruff. While still damp, use a good beard oil through it with your hands to keep it moist. For proper styling, go for a beard balm which works as a leave-in conditioner and makes it easier to shape and style your facial hair.
