Ahead of IPL 2023, RCB hosted an event at their home ground and unveiled their new jersey. Most Importantly, Virat Kohli, AB de Villers and Chris Gayle reunited.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted an Unbox event at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis unveiled the latest jersey for the upcoming season of IPL 2023. This year RCB was sponsored by Qatar Airways. Most importantly Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villers reunited for the event was a treat for the rcbians. Speaking of the event, former captain of RCB Virat Kohli represents the Bangalore-based franchise for the sixteenth consecutive season after joining the team in 2008 as a 19-years old player.
The franchise was the honour of AB de Villers and Chris Gayle at the Royal Challengers Bangalore unbox event for their contribution to the team. Their jersey numbers are 333 (Chris Gayle) and 17 (AB de Villers) retired permanently as a tribute and both the cricketers will be inducted into the Royal Challengers Bangalore Hall of Fame. AB de Villers retired from all the crickets in 2022 while legendary cricketer Chris Gayle last played an IPL in 2021.
The trio (Virat, ABD and Gayle) was together in RCB jerseys from 2017, as in 2018 Chris Gayle was signed by the Punjab Kings after RCB didn’t retain him. The event also featured some live performances such as Jason Derulo and Sonu Nigam and fans get a chance to live view their practice session at the stadium. Chris Gayle and ADB also joined Virat Kohli and the rest of the team at the venue. While Chris Gayle was spotted in a jolly mood as he did Gangnam style dance at the stadium and was seen sharing a laugh with King Kohli. Seeing this trio together fans go gaga over that.
Indian cricketer Virat Kohli get a grand welcome as the crowd started chanting “Kohli, Kohli” and “King Kohli” at the venue during the practice session. Cricketer Glenn Maxwell was also present at the venue, while Virat Kohli was seen having a long chat with the Aussie all-rounder. This will be the first appearance of Glenn Maxwell in sports after the accident he met last year at his friend’s birthday party and had to undergo surgery and rehabilitation.
Former RCB captain Virat Kohli also shared a glimpse video of RCB’s return to their home ground after 3 years. In no time the video crossed 2 million likes within nine hours. It will be 3 years since RCB played at M Chinnaswamy stadium due to the pandemic. RCB will remain in the hunt for Indian Premiere League (IPL) trophy. As they were impressive in the last 3 seasons, as they made it into the playoffs each time. Last year, they qualified for the playoffs and came in the 4th position after losing to RR (Rajasthan Royals). This year, RCB begin their campaign against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Bangalore on 2nd April.
