Arceau L’Heure De La Lune by Hermes

Arceau L’Heure De La Lune by Hermes

That aventurine. So hot right now. But seriously – if you’re going to make a high-end celestial-themed watch, why wouldn’t you use the most celestial-themed stone in the pantheon of all semi-precious stones? None of those have been done quite like the Arceau L’Heure De La Lune from Hermes – a double moonphase complication with a unique time and date display. Varying in colour, size, and intensity, those inclusions also happen to look a lot like a starry sky, adding a surprising degree of depth and dimension to what would otherwise amount to a flat surface. The dial has a bluish hue to it, and plenty of the aforementioned depth, with inclusions of varying sizes, lending the appearance of celestial bodies both near and far. Oh, and there’s a very subtle but spectacular pegasus motif by artist Dimitri Rybaltchenko hidden in the Northern Hemisphere.

Master Control Geographic by Jaeger-LeCoultre

Master Control Geographic by Jaeger-LeCoultre

In 2020, La Grande Maison relaunched the Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master Control collection, drawing inspiration from the classic round watches of the 1950s, and adding a dash of 21st-century flair. When launched in 1992, the Master Control line was the first of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s collections to benefit from its pioneering ‘1000 Hours Control’ certification - which inspired the collection’s name. The relaunch of Master Control is not simply a stylistic exercise. The watchmakers have comprehensively revised and updated all of the movements, increasing power reserves to as much as 70 hours and enhancing overall performance and reliability. A perfect travel watch, not only indicates the hour of a second time zone, but also has a 24-hour night/day indicator and, in an aperture at the bottom of the dial, displays the city name relating to the zone. This gives travellers the option of setting the second time by location, rather than needing to calculate the time difference.

Lange 1 Time Zone by A Lange & Sohne

Launched back in 2005, the revered Saxon watchmaker's peerless world timer has undergone a revision even before its official debut. But as our smitten horologist suggests, the Lange 1 Time Zone has been well worth the wait. The look has rightfully been retained for the new version, the dial of which, featuring different day and night indicators, remains as elegant, interesting, legible and, above all, as functional as ever, with its “switchable” city ring (operated with a push piece at the eight o'clock position) that enables quick setting to a second time zone and a unique crown-based synchronisation mechanism that makes it possible to instantly interchange time displays from one dial to the other with no loss of accuracy.

El Primero A384 Revival by Zenith

El Primero A384 Revival by Zenith

Zenith celebrated an important milestone last year when the world’s first high-frequency automatic chronograph movement, the El Primero calibre, turned fifty. Following the introduction of the calibre in 1969, a trilogy of watches was released bearing the winning chronograph movement. One of these was the famous reference A384. With its tonneau-shaped case and panda dial, the A384 was a true child of its time and captured the zeitgeist of the Age of Aquarius to a tee. Today Zenith releases another revival of the A384 decked out in red, white and blue exclusively for the North American market in a limited run of 150 watches.

Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona by Rolex

If bling is not your thing, then go for a luxury Rolex watch like this Cosmograph Daytona with an ice-blue dial. The white platinum case complements the blue well, while the black ceramic bezel provides contrast. Additionally, diamonds mark each hour, while the three sub-dials show 60 seconds, 30 minutes, and 12 hours for the chronograph. Like other designs of the Cosmograph Daytona, the watch is waterproof and scratch-resistant. The sportslike styling makes this a brilliant choice for gentlemen on the go.
