FIFA 2017

As a kid, I wanted to be cricketer, a table tennis player and sometimes, a footballer too. So, the new ‘Journey’ feature in the FIFA 2017 is something that I could relate to. Playing day and night, the story of wonder kid Alex Hunter made me want to succeed even more. Apart from the stunning presentation and improved player abilities and animations, in annualised games, there are hardly any surprising elements that you could put.

F1 2016

In a typical furious weekend journey of the Formula One circuit, the new Codemasters game takes the excitement to a whole new level. From new additions in the Free Practice session, where you can drive as many laps as you want to master the territory to the qualifying session. In the main race too, when you pull up in the line and wait for others to form a grid, you feel like this is your shot to glory. As you weave the tyres to keep them warm and braking to keep the discs hot, there is a rising tension. Isn’t that what you need in a game?

Genre: Action

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Nathan Drake is leading a calm life with his wife when his presumed dead brother returns to bring Nathan back from his self-imposed exile from treasure hunting. The game revolves around third-person combat, climbing and puzzle solving, but it’s the human emotions and the grandeur of the sequences that make it the best in the series. It is the gentle send-off to the rag group of characters that we’ve known for almost a decade. A worthy end of the thief, indeed!

Doom

Doom is what it is meant for. You, your shotgun and enough ammunition in your arsenal to rip every single demon apart on Mars. The game opens with just one purpose, kill and advance to the next level. The loud and chaotic campaign is the USP of Doom. It captures the essence of the original Doom and then translates it into the modern day gaming in a very smart way.

Dishonored 2

The breath-holding tension of perfectly executing a plan is what Dishonored 2 gives. From hiding dead bodies to sneaking through the keyholes and silently taking down the enemies, this game is a delightful chaos. There’s a new hero on the block, Empress Emily, who has a domino effect on her foes. They can relentlessly dodge, kick and flank. Use your powers judiciously and see how the story unfolds.

Street Fighter V

Street Fighter continues the legacy of its predecessors that provides a 16-character cast, to bring the great fighting engine out to life. The excellent fighting system promotes action more than caution, and the diverse cast with range of fighting styles don’t make it mundane. New abilities work differently for different player and it ensures that the fight stays interesting. Though the game has a long way to go, it’s a delightful tease!
