Got an Urge to Re-Live the Past? Visit This Country with A Past as Rich as Queen Elizabeth!
Let’s roll the dices backwards and enter the era of the 1970s. Baggy long pants are taking over the world and everyone is celebrating peace and love as the Vietnam War came to an end. There’s a paradise on earth which has been titled “The Jewel of The Mediterranean” and was known as one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Wondering if it’s a city from Southern France?
It’s in the Country of Cyprus & it’s empty, completely empty. Everything has been where it was since 1974. Cyprus is like a paradise on earth. With sunny weather throughout the year, this is a perfect tourist spot for people who like to buzz off in the sunny daze of the sun.
But there are some parts in the country like the ghost town of “Verosha” which has been there without anyone inhabiting it for around 46 years. Recently in 2020, the Government of Turkey has announced the gradual re-opening of the ghost town for the first time in 46 years. Want to grab the opportunity of being the first person visiting this ghost town? Well, stay tuned then!
Cyprus has always been a disputed land since the 1960s, when Greece announced a movement to take back the land that belonged to them, including Cyprus. But the problem was the minority of 18% Turkish Population that lived in the country. Turkey, since then has been in dispute with Greece and in 1974, a violent coup broke down the nation into two parts with a buffer zone dividing them.
One part is dominated by the Turkish Majority & One by Greek Majority. If you are someone who loves Beaches and Museums, you’ll fall in love with this island. If you are planning to visit anytime soon, we would suggest you wait some time and let Verosha re-open completely because it reminisces of the nation’s rich culture.
Except for the city of Verosha, the Southern part of Cyprus offers some of the immaculately beautiful places to set your foot on. You’ll find everything you need to relax and rejuvenate your senses and enjoy your vacation. From sunny beaches to trippy cafes, Cyprus has it all. Do check out some of the prominent places in the Jewel of The Mediterranean!
