What more do you Dzire?

Of course yeah, what more do you wish for? Better looking? An auto transmission? An even smoother drive? Let’s find out if the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire checks all boxes…
Before going any further, let’s be very clear about the car we are talking about. This is not a sexy supercar or a butch SUV. It’s what I would like to call the humble workhorse that has over time become one of the favourite set of wheels for the Indian car buyer. But then, there’s more to the new Dzire than what meets the eye. Let’s scratch it’s shiny surface and find the scoop within…

Oh yeah… It looks way different!
The Dzire of the past was good but it was very subtle. But this time Maruti Suzuki has decided to go bold and that too all the way. From its smashing grille to the overall cuts and snips all over its exterior, the new Dzire oozes spunk, confidence and poise. It stands out from its peers and is no longer the car that you can just walk by without giving a second look. The slight hint of curvature on the chrome framework on the perimeter of the grille adds another interesting element to the character of the car.
The pure joy of auto

For a change of scenery I decided to test the car in the bustling city of Mumbai and that too with the heavy showers in progress. And what better way to maneuver through the muck and the madness than in a car with an automatic transmission. The new Dzire is equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that’s mated to a 5-speed AMT. Normally I am a bit skeptical about the automatics out there in this price bracket but the Dzire does surprise you. The power delivery is controlled in a smooth manner and as you rev, it goes up in quite a linear manner. It’s especially good at tackling stop-and-go traffic situations.
And finally…
The Dzire has always been a popular choice in the Indian market. With its new look and feel, the car will definitely appeal to a lot more car buyers and will certainly see a surge in sales. What’s interesting is that a car which had a very strong utilitarian aspect has now got a makeover and is all set to throw the gauntlet at its competitors on the ramp as well.
