2012: The Year Of The Sequels

American Reunion (80)

American Reunion (80)

The patent American Pie wickedness will be back this April when all of the naughtiest characters will meet for their high-school reunion after a decade. Imagine the kind of mayhem that it would create on the silver screen… The story spins around a weekend when the friends, who had once set out to lose their virginity, try to determine if life has been kind to them and if they still care for each other. BTW, Finch still loves Stifler’s mom.

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (79)

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (79)

Even though the last release of the vampire love saga received mixed reactions, the final edition is one of the most awaited films of 2012. To be directed by Bill Condon, the leading faces – Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner – will face the camera once again to wrap the Twilight saga. The film will focus on the couple’s quest to bring-up their half-human, half-vampire child whom other vampire’s plan to kill and Bella’s first outing as a vampire.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (77)

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (77)

Is Nicolas Cage still heroic enough? You’ll see for yourself in February, when he reprises his role as Johnny Blaze (aka Ghost Rider). Tagged as the sequel of 2007’s Ghost Rider, this one’s in 3D and is based on Marvel Comics anti-hero who is a stunt motorcyclist. To be honest, the teasers don’t look that impressive, though Cage in an interview revealed that the movie is going to be an incredibly wild ride. Our fingers are crossed!

The Dark Knight Rises (77)

The Dark Knight became a rage in 2008. Now fours years down the line, the Batman series’ third installment is all set to hit theatres in July. The terrorist leader Bane is back in Gotham City and his activities have created nuisance, forcing Batman to re-emerge. Christian Bale is looking good, but Tom Hardy has stolen the show in his new avatar. If the recently released trailer is anything to go by, this one will be dark!

2012: The Year Of The Sequels

The Ring 3 (66)

Remember the creepy little girl who scared the hell out of you in The Ring and reappeared in The Ring Two. Well, we’re not sure if she’s back in the third part because the storyline’s been kept under wraps, but we do know that this one’s a prequel and is a bit teensy. The year’s biggest horror flick will be out in 3D this October.

The Bourne Legacy (77)

Unfortunately, Matt Damon won’t reprise his role in the fourth edition loosely based on the book of the same name by Robert Ludlum and Eric Van Lustbader. According to the makers, this isn’t a sequel or prequel, but is a “sidequel” as it has new characters and a different plotline. Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz have been roped in as the leads and will be shown struggling with the consequences of Jason’s actions from The Bourne Ultimatum.

2012: The Year Of The Sequels

The Amazing Spider-Man (84)

This fourth outing of the Spider-Man series is actually a reboot, so it can be considered as the first. Tobey Maguire is no longer running around spinning spider-webs, instead Andrew Garfield will wear the spidey suit this time. Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans are also a part of the cast. Like The Ring 3, this one too is a bit teensy as Parker is in high school where he’s trying to unravel the mystery of Spider-Man’s powers. This one will release in 3D in July.

Ice Age 4 (64)

Ice Age 4 (64)

The beloved trio – Manny, Diego and Sid will board an iceberg-makeshift ship to start their biggest adventure till date. Due to an entire continental drift, they’re separated from the herd and are challenged to the limits. In order to survive, they have to fight deadly pirates and sea creatures. Also, Scrat finds his cursed nut again and travels to places no other squirrel has been.

Skyfall (79)

We may be jealous of Daniel Craig ‘cos all girls ogle at him, but it’s undeniable that this Bond has style. Skyfall, the 23rd Bond film will release in October. This time Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past resurfaces. MI6 is attacked and 007 must find out who’s responsible, even if it’s someone close to him. As for the new Bond girl – do you remember the scary Calypso from Pirates of the Caribbean? She’s it, seriously!

The Hobbit (62)

From the many prequels releasing this year – The Hobbit, the first in a two-part series is the most eagerly awaited. Slated for December, it’s a prequel to the Lords of the Ring trilogy and focuses on well, the Hobbits. Bilbo Baggins and a group of dwarves travel to the Lonely Mountain to fight dragon Smaug and reclaim the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Madagascar 3 (71)

Apart from the trio of Ice Age, Madagascar’s crazy bunch are also set for a new journey. In June, Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo will once again make an effort to reach New York. They join a travelling circus in hopes of reaching NY, but of course, the journey isn’t an easy one. From the trailers, this 3D flick looks promising and fun!
