Combatting All Waters
His debut show had teenagers glued to primetime television in early 2000s. Ever since, Karan Wahi has played a variety of distinct roles, anchored some of the biggest reality shows and successfully imposed a niche on all the three platforms–TV, films and digital.

What’s keeping you busy these days?
Not much! I am just waiting for my next web thing for ALTBalaji to begin.

It has been more than 16 years since Remix first aired, how would you reflect on your career from then to now?
It feels like yesterday. It has been really fun and I am glad, people have liked and appreciated my work all these years. I am grateful that I got to work on TV, films and the web as an actor and also as an anchor on reality shows. I got to explore different genres and starred in dance and comedy shows too. I am just thankful for everything!
If you could start all over again, what would you do differently?
I would not want to do anything different but maybe change certain things that I let go off or things that I spent too much time waiting for.
What’s one thing about Karan Wahi that a lot of people don’t know?
People know almost everything about me. The rest should remain unknown as a little mystery is always good.
What’s the secret to your washboard abs?
There is no secret because I have not done much for them. I have just been into fitness for over 19 years now. Persistence pays off!
Of all the characters that you have played, who do you relate the most to?
I guess anything and everything that I play as an actor ends being my favourite at that moment because it is fun to be someone you are not. But when it comes to relating to a character, the last role I played was Vicky in Barcode and I relate to his impulsive nature a lot.
Your Instagram feed looks like a vacation album. What places have you visited in 2018 and what is in store for 2019?
I love travelling! Exploring new places and meeting new people makes me happy. 2018 was filled with a lot of travel and I am glad, it was. I went to Dubai, South Africa, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Thailand, and Italy. I travelled all across Himachal Pradesh and a few other places in India. Hopefully 2019 will be the same. I don’t plan where I will be going next but yeah I am sure it will be somewhere exciting.
How do you unwind after a hectic day?
The usual! After a long day, I come back home and watch something on the web, eat some home cooked food and have my friends over.
A millennial trend that you don’t like or understand.
There is only one thing that I don’t get about millennials and that is pretending to be someone or portraying to be someone you’re not, both physically and mentally just for likes and follows. Do these numbers really matter so much or at all?
A pick up line that worked for you?
I have said a few but none of them have worked for me. (laughs)
Who is your style icon?
I don’t consider anyone an icon for me because I am not much into fashion but I guess whatever looks good on you eventually becomes your style.
Your choice of comfort food?
Rajma chawal.
One skill that you wish to acquire?
I wish and hope that I learn to play guitar properly this year.
