Death Mysteries That Might Never Be Solved... Never

Death, murder or suicide – the truth behind these demises will remain distorted forever.

01 Subhash Chandra Bose

There are as many conspiracy theories surrounding Netaji’s death as there are around the 9/11 bombings. It is largely believed that he died from third-degree burns on 18 August 1945 after an overloaded Japanese plane he was on crashed in Japanese-occupied Formosa, which is now Taiwan. However, in 2006, a 102-year-old man claiming to be Netaji’s driver-cum-bodyguard claimed he died a natural death in oblivion, decades later in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh. There are also stories about him returning to India from Japan and spending the rest of his life as a saint in Uttar Pradesh. Some of the popular saints in the area during that time like Bhagwanji were believed to be Netaji, while several others who were also believed to be Netaji were even approached for a DNA test.

02 Lal Bahadur Shastri

When India’s second PM died in Tashkent in 1966 just a few hours after signing the peace declaration that ended the Indo-Pak War, there were enough reasons to raise doubts about his sudden demise. He died of a heart attack, as claimed in the medical examination, but could he have been poisoned during the formal banquet hosted after successful negotiations? Why was no post mortem conducted? No one knows what exactly happened, but there are theories that suggest that Pakistan and Moscow could have conspired in Shastri’s murder. In fact, the waiters who had served Shastri during the banquet were arrested on the suspicion of poisoning his food, but were later released after doctors who accompanied the Prime Minister on his trip, along with some Soviet doctors, concluded that he died of a heart attack, which was his fourth. However, no one was ready to buy this conclusion because Lalita, Shastri’s wife, brought some bluish marks on his body to everyone’s notice and also said that the PM never suffered from any heart ailment.

03 Aarushi Talwar

Though the CBI has been able #### p23 to prove to the court that it was Aarushi’s parents who murdered her and their domestic help Hemraj, not everyone is convinced about the findings.

04 Divya Bharti

On April 5, 1993, at roughly 11 pm, Divya Bharti fell from the fifth floor of Tulsi Apartments, Andheri West, Mumbai – the four bedroom flat she was supposed to move in to after the shoot of her husband Sajid Nadiadwala’s film Andolan in Mauritius. There were three other people present in the flat when the accident happened – Andolan’s costume designer Neeta Lulla, Neeta’s husband Dr. Shyam and Divya’s maid Amrita, who had been taking care of her since her birth. The incident shocked her so much that she suffered a heart attack soon after the incident and died within a month. It’s been more than two decades since the young actress passed away, but conspiracy theories are still floating around about her sudden demise.

05 Natasha Singh

Married to politico Natwar Singh’s son Jagat, Natasha committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop of Hotel Hyatt Regency in Delhi more than a decade ago. Though it was primarily ruled as a suicide, some still suspect that it could have been a high profile murder because of Natasha’s troubled relationship with her husband and her alleged affair with Coca Cola executive Vinay Kapoor, who apparently walked out on her. Vinay also stayed in a suite at the same hotel.

06 Jiah Khan

When the 25-year-old was found hanging from the ceiling of her Juhu residence on June 3, 2013, it looked like a simple case of suicide. However, further investigations and her postmortem report showed human flesh and blood lodged underneath her fingernails due to which several theories started to crop up around her death. Though actor Aditya Pancholi’s son, Sooraj Pancholi, has been charged with abetment to suicide in the case, no one is still sure if she committed suicide or was hanged after being killed. There were even reports of the FBI trying to pitch in with the investigations because Jiah was a US citizen.

07 Sunanda Pushkar

She is the reason we thought of this feature in the first place. Though people close to her controversial husband claimed that she died of natural causes, the autopsy proved otherwise. Some also believed that she died of a drug overdose. Also, the absence of any poison was established in the autopsy. Whether her demise in room number 345 of Hotel Leela Palace could have been death, murder or suicide will never be proved... or atleast that’s what it looks like right now.
