February Movies: Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Ek Deewana Tha And Jodi Breakers
Karan Johar’s candyfloss romance, a Gautham Menon remake and a break-up comedy: the month’s releases.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

Another sugarcoated film churned out by the candyfloss factory of Karan Johar… Though we hate to admit that we secretly love the song Aunty Ji.
Karan Johar’s next is clearly aimed at the younger generation and from the storyline, shows an uncanny likeness to Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz’s 2008 flick What Happens in Vegas. But of course, we can’t forget that this is Bollywood and knowingly or unknowingly, a chunk of our films are inspired by Hollywood.

From its trailers and overall styling, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu has all the regular trappings, contrary to Johar’s last flick Agneepath. Though it does boast of a fairly unusual pairing between Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan.

Imran and Kareena play Rahul and Raina, two happy-go-lucky people who live on the edge. On one reckless night, they get sloshed while celebrating and wake up the next morning to find that they have gotten married. Realising what a BIG mistake that is, they try to get the marriage annulled, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. The plotline follows the journey to end this relationship with umpteen unusual moments.

Directed by debutant Shakun Batra with mellow romantic songs by Amit Trivedi, the film’s title track and instant hit Aunty Ji is already making this one a popular choice for the popcorn brigade.

Let’s just hope that this film, which releases on February 10, does not bomb at the box office like the Hollywood original.

Ek Deewana Tha

Watch it for the dusky Brit girl we are currently drooling over and of course, Rahman’s music that rarely ever goes wrong…

A remake of Tamil hit, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, written and directed by Gautham Menon, the romantic-drama features Prateik Babbar and British model Amy Jackson. The story revolves around Sachin, set to make it big in films and Jessie, a simple girl and daughter of the landlord whose house Sachin stays in. Two very different characters that fall in love. But like other love story, the parents intervene with Jessie’s parents refusing this match and making failed attempts at setting her up with someone else. A lot of problems, complications and misunderstandings arise that eventually separate the couple, but are fixed in the end (we assume).

With a run-of-the-mill narrative, can Amy’s looks and Rahman's music save this film?
Wait and watch as the film hits theatres on February 17.
Jodi Breakers

Well there is not much to write home about this film, except that the plotline is stolen from the French film Heartbreaker…
This R Madhavan and Bipasha Basu starrer has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Sharing striking similarities with the French Heartbreaker, Jodi Breakers has been accused of plagiarism. Though the maker, Ashish Chaudhary denies this, we’ll have to watch the film to decide.
Jodi Breakers is about two individuals who run a business of breaking other people’s relationships. They’re quite successful, but as the story progresses, they fall in love. The crux of the story is about whether their love survives and do they manage to save their relationship.
At least the idea sounds fresh for Bollywood, so let’s hope the acting does it justice.
The film is out on February 24
