2013 was a year when Bollywood completed its 100 years and gave us a beautiful film yet thought-provoking “Bombay Talkies”. Bombay Talkies is a Hindi language Anthology film consisting of four short films, directed by some talented directors like Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, and Karan Johar. It is the first anthology film of Bollywood followed by Lust Stories in 2018 and Ghost Stories in 2020.

Each filmmaker in their films shared their own versions of films inspiring people from various tires of society. These popular but underappreciated anthologies feature actors like Rani Mukherjee, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ranvir Shorey, Vineet Kumar Singh, and many more. This anthology film was also screened Cannes Film Festival 2013.

Four women in pursuit of independence are followed in Lipstick Under My Burkha as they go about their private lives. The main topic of the movie is how, despite all the odds and challenges in their path, they are able to pursue their goals by performing modest acts of bravery.

It stars Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkana Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumra, and Plabita Borthakur. The film was screened in many film festivals and won several awards for the story and courage to bring out the story like this.

Ajeeb Daastaans is another anthology that was produced by Netflix and Karan Johar in 2021. It stars Fatima Sana Sheikh & Jaydeep Ahlawat in Majnu directed by Shashank Khaitan; Nushrat Bharucha & Abhishek Banerjee in Khilauna directed by Raj Mehta; Konkana Sen Sharma & Aditi Rao Hydari in Geeli Puchhi directed by Neeraj Gehwan and Shefali Shah & Manav Kaul in Unkahi directed by Kayoze Irani.

Of all four short films ‘Geeli Puchhi’ and ‘Unkahi’ stands outs and got an appreciation for the story and the roles played by the actors.

In 2022, the makers of LIAM announced its sequel titled ‘Metro…In Dino’ stars Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sara Ali Khan. It is expected to be released on 08th December 2023.
