Make Your Flat Seal the Deal

Living room basics

“If your lounge is dirty, she’ll think ‘taxi’. Too slick and she’ll think ‘womaniser’, so give it a tidy, then focus on making sure it reflects your personality. This will help to make her feel relaxed, which is key to getting her into bed. So if you told her you’re into sport, have sport books evident and so on.”

She is the DJ

“Women are intensely influenced by music. Get the right song and she’ll feel special, safe and sexy. But get the wrong song and the mood’ll go dark. Conclusion? Put the decision in her hands. Point her towards your iPod dock and ask her to choose something while you get drinks. This way she’ll be able to choose a song from her or your iPod that makes her feel warm.”

Grab a gadget

“A decade ago a woman would have run from a gadget-packed flat, as she’d have seen them as seduction tools. Today the rules have changed. Nowadays we see gadgets as signs of wealth and success, which, of course, is a turn on. Display yours with pride.”

The heat is on

“If your flat’s cold, she’s going to be borrowing one of your fleeces, which is the exact opposite of what you want. Make it cosy or there’s no chance she’ll strip.”

Blue is the colour

“Men are rarely brave with colours. So most flats tend to be a bland mix of beige and brown. Which screams ‘lack of adventure’. Which screams ‘boring in bed’. Combat this by matching the safe brown with a bolder navy blue to give you a colour scheme that’s both calming and sexual.”

Get supplies

“Nothing makes women feel more spoiled than drinking champagne and nibbling chocolates, a food and drink combo that also has the added benefit of making the night feel like an occasion. And if you make the night feel like an occasion, you make us feel special, which is a huge turn on.”

Looking fry

“A guy who can cook is very attractive. A guy who can really cook is scary – women think, ‘Shit, I’m not going to cook for him.’ So you need to look like you’re handy, but not Michelin standard. A couple of cookbooks, the odd pan, and a semi-full spice rack should do the trick.”

Touchy feely

“Women love to touch and feel things, so we’ll instantly feel at home if your flat features a variety of items with different textures, like a shagpile rug, a cashmere throw, some fluffy cushions and a velvet ottoman. Stuff that’ll make us snuggle.”

Picture perfect

“Photos of ex-girlfriends are obviously a big no-no – we’ll compare ourselves – but ones of family and friends are great. The former excites because most women are looking for long-term relationships, while the latter is a turn-on, as it suggests you’re popular.”

Wax on

“Get the smell right and we’ll relax. Get it wrong and we’ll fidget. Open the windows and give your flat an airing, then light a vanilla-scented candle. Note: that’s vanilla, because vanilla triggers pleasure in women. And it’s singular, because if every room’s covered in candles she’ll think you’re gay.”

See the light

“At some point she’ll go to the loo to check herself out and if she’s doesn’t look hot, she’ll lose confidence. So use rose light bulbs in the toilet as rose is by far the most flattering light, which means she’ll feel hot.”

Bathroom basics

“If she walks in and thinks, ‘I’m not showering in there!’ that’s bad news. No shower, means no staying the night. Avoid this by ensuring your bathroom is clean and by displaying clean bath towels and tons of loo roll.”

Bedroom basics

“If you’ve got her into the bedroom, she’s relaxed, so the mission here is to keep her comfortable. Focus on cleanliness and comfort rather than tricks and craftily placed pot-pourri. Make sure your room is tidy, your pillows are fluffed and your sheets are crisp, clean and go with the décor.” Tracey’s latest book Supersex For Life is out now
