Excerpts from a free-wheeling interview with this girl with big dreams from beautiful country, Nepal.

What’s keeping you busy these days?

A lot of things actually! I have my Chartered Accountancy classes in the morning as I am finishing up college this year in Kathmandu. I squeeze in time for photo shoots, fashion shows and interviews in between. I am also the Nepalese brand ambassador for Pinkathon Project. Sometime I wish there were 48 hours in a day (laughs)!

You were the first runner up in the reality show India’s Next Top Model Season 3. How are things after the show? We are sure you have interesting projects in your hands.

Life is different. I am amazed how often people recognise me now on the streets in nepal. And thanks to the show, I am also being offered modelling assignments. A lot of people told me that I am an inspiration for aspiring models from Nepal. I am on cloud nine with all the love coming my way from my country. It means a lot to me.

You have impressed the judges of India’s Next Top Model. What is your takeaway from the show?

I had an amazing experience and I think it has been one of the best decisions of my life to enter the competition. The judges would criticise me for poor performance but also encourage me when I did well. I am better groomed today, thanks to the judges and the show. I am a much more confident person now.

Were you always inclined towards modelling?

Not before I was 19. I never thought I would become a model. In fact, I loved reading and going to school. Studies and sports sum up my childhood! I was an avid footballer. Modelling was purely by coincidence. Someone noticed me at an education fair where I was representing my college and offered a photo shoot.

I was reluctant at first but decided to go with the flow. While the opportunity knocked at my door without much effort, I made it a point to learn on the job. I started following international models and icons from the fashion world, study their walk, style and stance.

I have been hugely inspired by Alessandra Ambrosia, the Brazilian actress and Victoria’s Secret model.

How did your family react to your decision?

Although there is no one in my family from the showbiz, but they were cool with it, and have been very supportive.

India and Nepal share a very special bond. How has the experience been for you?

Yes, we do have a lot of things in common... culture, religion, festivals! People in India are very kind, just like Nepal. I had comfortable stay in Mumbai. I am not yet settled in India, but would eventually do so.

India has some very talented Nepalese models. How is the modelling scene in Nepal?

It’s getting better by the day. People are becoming aware of modelling as a career choice, and youngsters are better prepared. I am happy for Nepalese models, who are doing well in India.

Anjali Lama, the first transgender model from Nepal, has made a mark for herself in India. She was also the cover girl for L’Officiel India magazine. How do you see her success?

I look up to her and love her work. We have been friends for last few years. She is an inspiration.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

It has to be my stint at India’s Next Top Model, a life changing decision for me.

Which fashion designer would you love to walk for?

Balmain and Alessandro Michele

We know, it’s a cliché, but where do you see yourself in five years from now?

As a successful model who is running her own runway academy!
