Suriya's Scene: Aavesham director Jithu Madhavan turns him into a lazy cop for Diwali

Suriya plays a resigned, sofa-loving DSP in Jithu Madhavan's Tamil action-comedy Scene, with Nazriya Nazim and Naslen. It hits cinemas worldwide on 6 November 2026.

Suriya is back in khaki, and this time the uniform comes with a punchline. Scene, his Tamil action-comedy with Aavesham director Jithu Madhavan, lands in cinemas worldwide on 6 November 2026, timed for Diwali. The trailer dropped on 31 October, and it makes one thing very clear: this is not your usual roaring-cop film.

Suriya plays DSP Inbaraj, a police officer who has quit the force and has zero interest in coming back. When his senior officer Stephen (Lal) orders him to report, his colleagues end up physically carrying him out of his house. His explanation for the resignation? He wants to enter politics. Suriya's own pitch for the trailer sums up the mood: "Murder. Mystery. Madness… and a whole lot of laughter!"

Who's in it

Behind the camera, the team is stacked with names from Malayalam cinema's recent hot streak: Sushin Shyam on music, Vineeth Augustian on cinematography and Ajmal Sabu on the edit. The film is produced by Suriya and Jyothika's Zhagaram Studios, with 2D Entertainment also on board, and Sakthi Film Factory distributing in Tamil Nadu.

The details you need

  • Release: In cinemas worldwide from 6 November 2026
  • Language: Tamil
  • Runtime: 2 hours 29 minutes
  • Certificate: U/A from the CBFC
  • Director: Jithu Madhavan, making his Tamil directorial debut
  • Music: Sushin Shyam

The film started life under the working title Suriya 47. It arrives a day after Ramayana Part 1, which means the Diwali weekend becomes a straight fight between a giant mythological epic and a cheeky cop comedy. Two very different kinds of popcorn.

Nazriya Nazim is Maya, who answers Inbaraj's ad for a house help, and she gets her own action stunts in the trailer.

Why this one is different

Suriya has played his share of loud, chest-thumping policemen; the Singam films made him the face of the genre. Scene flips that. Inbaraj spends the opening of the trailer lounging at home, and his idea of rebellion is refusing to get off the sofa. At the film's promotional event in Dubai, Suriya said it could be labelled a crime thriller or a murder mystery, but that Jithu's humour would be the dominant flavour, calling it "a beautiful family entertainer". Nazriya was blunter: "I am sure all of you will be laughing your hearts out."

That tone is exactly what made Jithu Madhavan's Aavesham a cult favourite: big-hearted chaos, a scene-stealing lead and music that refuses to leave your head. Sushin Shyam scored that one too, so expect the soundtrack to do serious work here. The songs Aathi Iva Yarraa and Aeroplane are already out.

The FHM take

We'll say it: this is the Diwali release we're most curious about. A star of Suriya's size letting a director as playful as Jithu Madhavan loosen him up is the kind of risk Indian cinema needs more of. If Naslen's villain is half as menacing as the trailer suggests, and Sushin Shyam delivers another earworm, Scene could be the film that has everyone quoting dialogues by the end of the long weekend. Book the seats, skip the sweets you don't need, and go laugh.
