Hey Sayani, whassup?

Hey! Nothing much. Enjoying life.

You wowed us with your performance as the blind Khanum in "Margarita with a straw". In fact, you’ve dabbled in everything from theatre roles to movies.

While researching for Margarita I got the opportunity of meeting and working closely with several people who are visually challenged and observe them closely in their day to day life. This was such an overwhelming experience to see how self-sufficient, independent and empowered these individuals were, contrary to general perception. These individuals truly motivated me to celebrate life for whatever it is and at all times be constructively positive.

What has been the most inspiring filming experience so far?

One of the best things about being an actor is you constantly come in contact with people who inspire you and change your perspective of looking at life and lives of others. As for filming experience, two individuals who inspire me in so many different ways are Naseeruddin Shah, who has been my acting teacher and recently my co-actor in a film called 'The Hungry'. The other individual is Shah Rukh Khan. Again, his ability to surrender to the role he is playing and his humility were motivating & mesmerising at the same time.

What have you found most challenging so far?

Nothing in particular. I love everything about the process of filmmaking and acting. And I look forward to the challenges because without those, it will become banal and boring.

Hey girl, don’t get offended. Tell us when was your first relationship?

When I was 16. That was my first love, I guess.

How does a boy reach you? You don’t seem the sort who’s hand over their number on the first date.

I don't go on dates. And neither get impressed by random people who I don't know.

We heard you have a passion for photography, is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph?

Yeah. A lot of my friends are camera shy. I like taking their photos. I used to like taking portraits of children and old people.

If you could replace the handshake as a greeting, what interesting new greeting would you replace it with?

I like putting my right hand on the centre of my chest and bowing the head slightly. I often do it when called on stage. Maybe that.

What are the things that fascinate you in a guy?

The sense of humour, musicality, awareness about the world we live in, sensitivity, wit & intelligence.

What’s your idea of a perfect date?

Calm ambiance, great conversations & laughter teamed with some fine single malt.

What are the things you are tempted by?

Shoes & Sweets.

The Bong Beauty

And what makes you mean?

Nothing.

Do you think girls can be impossible at times?

What kind of a question is that!!!

Do girls check out other girls?

Of course, they do.

And you?

Sometimes. If I like what she is wearing or just like how she looks.

Not really! What weird food combinations do you really enjoy?

Actually none. I love eating though. My favourites are Bengali and Sushi.

Your favourite character from Game of Thrones?

Tyrion Lannister, Cersei Lannister and Daenerys.

What’s something you’re terrible at?

Remembering directions & keeping my wardrobe organised.

If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family assume you had done?

Damn, I hope that never happens. But hypothetically speaking, they would be sure that it’s a mistake and misunderstanding and I possibly couldn’t have done anything.

What achievement are you proud of but most people would consider silly or weird?

I was very proud to have solved some theft cases in the hostel during my college days, as in, like a detective. My friends now laugh when I tell them that I could be a good investigator.

What are you working on now and what’s next?

I am doing several short films. I have been getting a lot of good scripts for short films and I am trying to wrap all of them before I start with my next feature. We would also be starting to shoot for the second season of Inside Edge sometime next year.

Would you rather

Would you rather be famous when you are alive and forgotten when you die or unknown when you are alive but famous after you die?

The Bong Beauty

That's a tough one. I want to be famous while I am alive and so famous that it becomes impossible to forget my work that I leave behind.

Would you rather only be able to drink from a straw or only be able to use a spoon (no fork)?

The Latter. Can do with only spoons. Maybe chopsticks one in a while.

Would you rather never be able to wear pants or never be able to wear shorts?

I am passing this one.

Would you rather be fantastic at riding horses or amazing at driving dirt bikes?

Amazing at driving dirt bikes. Loved it the first time I did it on my birthday last month!

Would you rather never run out of battery power for whatever phone and tablet you own or always have free Wi-Fi wherever you go?

Always have free wifi. It's such a boon in some places especially when you are travelling without network or a local connection. I need to use Google Maps all the time when I am travelling alone. And by now you all know why!! Great talent at directions!

Would you rather have to fart loudly once, every time you have a serious conversation or have to burp after every kiss?

Yuk. Fart loudly I guess. Could be funny if it pops out timely in between a serious conversation.

Would you rather have a flying carpet or a car that can drive underwater?

Flying carpet. Actually, I would rather be transported everywhere I want to go, in a second.

Would you rather be an amazing painter or a brilliant mathematician?

Painter, of course.
