There was a time in Hindi cinema when every year, actors had to face clashes in which they either won or lost. So, let’s take a look at the films that were released on the same day and named the biggest movie clash in the history of Hindi cinema.

Lagaan Vs. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha

hindi

Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Lagaan and Anil Sharma’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha were considered the most anticipated film at the time of their release. The similarity of both films was that both films were based on period drama, Lagaan was based during the British rule and Gadar was based on the India-Pakistan partition. When these biggies clashed with each other, both were the winners.

Both films were announced as blockbusters at the box office in the year 2001. Lagaan became the 3rd movie from India to be nominated for the Oscars and Gadar broke the record of selling most numbers of tickets than Sholay.

But, this is not the first time when Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol came face to face for their films. They clashed 3 times at the box office in 3 different years. First, they clashed in 1990 during Dil & Ghayal, then in 1996, during Raja Hindustani & Ghatak, and last one is during Lagaan & Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001.

Om Shanti Om Vs. Saawariya

hindi

December 2007, was the time when Choreographer-Director Farah Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali compete against each other on the big screens. Both the films have debutants, where Saawariya marks the debut of Ranbir Kapoor & Sonam Kapoor, and Deepika Padukone debuted with Om Shanti Om.

Both films were very different in their genres, Om Shanti Om was a romantic fantasy that talked about the incarnation and Saawariya was a musical romantic film with a big production design and grand artistic approach. But, unfortunately, SRK & Deepika won the box office over Ranbir & Sonam and became the top-grosser film of 2007.

Sholay Vs. Jai Santoshi Maa

hindi

When Sholay and Jai Santoshi Maa were both released on August 15, 1975, it led to one of the largest conflicts in the history of Hindi film. This clash was between the biggest movie of the century and the biggest devotional movie ever made in Bollywood.

Jai Santoshi Maa was the clear winner of the Box-office race but because of the action sequence, dialogues, Songs, and star cast, make Sholay an epic film that was considered the most successful and widely loved film in the history of Hindi Cinema.

Jaan-E-Mann Vs. Don: The Chase Begins

The verdict of this film is not hidden from anyone. In 2006, the box office battle was between two of the biggest superstars of Bollywood, the two Khans, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan with Don: The Chase Begins, and Jaan-E-Mann.

Though the buzz around the two films was decent enough, Don emerged as the clear winner at the box, but even after the beautiful storyline and strong performance of Salman Khan, Preity Zinta, and Akshay Kumar, Jaane-E-Mann failed at the box office but its song ‘Humko Maalum Hain’ is still everyone’s favourite.
