Indian cinema has always tried to prove itself to be one of the best industries in entertainment, and many times it has succeeded in proving it, whether by its stories or special effects.
Indian cinema has upgraded itself from the previous versions of filmmaking, and now it is working on much more modern techniques and higher-quality animations. This resulted in several movies in Indian cinema being compared with Hollywood movies; it also helped the audience to have a better option in terms of VFX movies, animations, and CGI that were not available before. Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva
Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva is a recent example of how Indian cinema, especially Hindi movies, has expanded its boundaries. The main highlight of this movie was its VFX itself, which was beautifully and captivately used in the film. If you don’t know, let us tell you that Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva was the biggest movie of 2022, which has over 4500 CGI sequences.
This heroic fantasy film features an outstanding ensemble that includes Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, Akkineni Nagarjuna, and Dimple Kapadia. In the brief cameo, Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan were visible. VFX has expertly created a universe that is both enchanting and mind-blowing.
Ra One
Ra One was one of the first films in the 2010s era that perfectly used VFX in the film. At the time of its release, the film was released with mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, but later, over time, it gained due credit, and today Ra One is considered one of the cult films of Indian cinema due to its VFX and storyline, which were way ahead of their time.
Ra One, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, and Arjun Rampal, was praised for its graphics, VFX, and performance, as well as for its music album, which was composed by Vishal and Shekhar.
If there is one movie that garnered a lot of appreciation following the appalling response to the release of Adipurush—even if it took more than ten years—it is the VFX Marvel Ra One, starring Shah Rukh Khan. With a quarter of the budget, SRK produced Hollywood-calibre visual effects for a superhero movie back in 2011.
Zero
2018 was the year when Shah Rukh Khan saw his downfall with the most experimental film of his career. Zero was released with the expectation that people would like the film and that the box office would see huge growth with Zero, but it turned out to be disappointing. Zero was criticised for its inconsistent screenplay, direction, and outlandish story.
However, the movie was praised for its performance (especially by Katrina Kaif) and its visual effects. The VFX of the movie was looked after by Red Chillies Entertainment. As time went on, the movie gained popularity and became recognised as a cult classic.
RRR
RRR is a film that will steal your breath away, from the way the huge combat sequence was designed to the way the beautiful landscapes were created. Produced by S. S. Rajamouli, it was the biggest film of 2022, marking its presence not only in India but also at Cannes, the Academy Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, and many other big places.
It was the film that used 2800 VFX scenes which is very hard to recognise in the film because of the legends who were behind the scenes. Indian and Western critics alike lauded RRR for its screenplay, direction, action scenes, visual effects, character development, cast performances, and musical numbers.
Baahubali
Saving the best for last, the Prabhas film was an unusual sight in Indian cinema, a high-end action movie using what seemed like real special effects. Though Baahubali was a fictional movie, it was supported by heavy VFX and became one of the highest-grossing films of that year, which proves how the audience believes in good cinema.
From bullfight sequences and grand entries to Mega War, Baahubali hired more than 15 VFX to give it the large scale that it achieved. The entire Mahishmati city, the new kingdom with its vegetation, and the opening shot with the lotus fire are just a few examples of scenes that were created solely using visual effects.
S. S. Rajamouli’s hard work can be easily visible through his work on VFX and storytelling. Not only Baahubali: The Beginning but also Baahubali: The Conclusion also had one of the best VFX in Indian cinema.
