Isabel Blancart – Femme Fatal

Spanish supermodel Isabel Blancart is everything that a man can desire for in a woman. And she knows it.

At 18, Isabel Blancart became a model and her world changed. Not that it was her ultimate dream. Unlike most Spanish beauties, Isabel never thought of entering the world of cover shoots and ramp walks. It was her parents who first suggested that she can be a part of the fashion world. A simple girl growing up in a sleepy little town of Spain, nudged by her parents, entered a reality show that spots and grooms models. She worked hard and earned a name for herself. Dozens of beauty brand collaboration and cover shoots (including editorial for L’Officiel Brasil), she is now busy travelling. We caught up with her in-between her escapades. Excerpts from the interview.

Q- Tell us about your childhood. Did you dream of becoming a model?
A- I was born in one of the most beautiful towns in Spain… Cordoba. I was always surrounded by family and friends, who have been with me since childhood. I never had slightest of hint that I could be a model. Until I actually chanced upon the opportunity of being a model, I had no inclination towards this profession.

Q- So, how did modelling happen?                                                                                                                                                                                A- I would say pure luck and some encouragement from my parents. While growing up, I was always told that I have the face and personality of a model. Even strangers would come up to me and tell me that I look like a model. And all I could think was how can I be a model? I was living in small town, living a normal, much protected life. Honestly, I didn’t even believe that I was beautiful or I have it in me to be a model. Even today, I am a normal girl-next-door.

Q- You also participated in the Spanish edition of Supermodel, Supermodelo.

A- I remember that day. I was watching the first season of Supermodelo with my family. My parents looked at me and asked me if I would like to give it a try and audition for the show. I laughed it off. I was just 17. A year later, my friends told me that the show is conducting auditions for the second season and that the winner will represent Spain in Elite Model contest. Since, the casting was happening in a city very close to my town, I thought to give it a try. But, as luck would have it, I was also offered a job at an apparel showroom the same day. I was so confused and told my parents that I can’t go to the audition. My father told me that I have an opportunity knocking at my door and I shouldn’t let it go. He said he believed in me and that I will be a part of the show. His conviction in me made me take the audition. I went for the audition. Everything changed after that day.

Q- So, would you say that Supermodelo was a turning point in your life?

A- Yes. Although, I did not win the show but, I am glad that I was a part of the show. I was spotted by the Elite Model Management and it offered me a contract. And the next I know, I was traveling for shoots and shows to Barcelona, Paris, London, Milan, and Miami. Everything was new for me but I learnt on the job. Today, it is my life.

Q- Where do you see yourself five years from now?

A- Honestly… I have no idea. I am someone who lives in the present. I don’t even know where I am going be next week. Look how I became your cover girl, without a hint. It was godsend.

Q- What success means to you?

A- To me, success is waking up everyday and being able to do things that I love. Right now, it’s modelling. Success is being able to do things that I choose to do and when I choose to do them.

Q- How often do you hit the gym?

A-To tell you the truth, I don’t go to the gym. I prefer yoga, Pilates and waliking over gymming.

Q- What excites you more: runway or cover shoots?

A- Cover shoots! Over the years, I have realised that I love to be in front of the camera, express myself and getting into the skin of a new character that I am suppose to play.

Q- What kind of music do you like?

A- It depends on my mood actually. I love Spanish music, especially flamenco because it’s all about love. I love to discover new songs and artists. Spotify is my best friend. Right now, I have flamenco and pop music from the ‘70s and ‘80s. I love Rihanna, Beyoncé, Rosalia (a Spanish singer) and Camarón.

Q- Have you ever been to india?

A-Sadly no! But it’s on my bucket list. And thanks to being FHM covergirl, I will visit soon
