The news just dropped that our fluffballs of love, Dogs, can sniff the presence of Covid-19 positive samples with almost 97% accuracy as per a French study. This has come to much wonderment in times when the results of the 15-minute rapid Antigen tests for Covid-19 are being held contentious in the worrisome times of pandemic. This revelation metaphorically exemplifies how Dogs are ‘accurately’ loyal to humans and are of great help to detect the presence of a life-threatening virus. However, the question is how much do humans love their loyal furry friends as their pets face uneasiness in lockdown due to the pandemic. Pets cannot go out for their regular walks or enjoy open green spaces with their favourite toys as they are confined to homes with their ‘pawrents’. Besides that, pet grooming has also become an uphill task in lockdown as many ‘pawrents’ struggle to groom their pets due to the closing of grooming centres and pet salons. So, if you are one of those who lack expertise in pet grooming and seek answers to take care of their pets at home, we have got you covered.
Toying while bathing
It is a known fact that most of our furry friends are not a fan of bathing. It takes hours to gear them up for a bathing and cleaning session. However, to make it easy, one can opt for some playful tricks like taking your pet’s favourite toys to the bathroom. Start toying around and when you see them being frisky with it, gently pour in water and start cleaning. If your dog is big, then opt for spot cleaning rather than a full bath, once a week. After bathing, opt for a massage session for your pet. It will not only help them relax and feel loved but will enable early detection of any lumps under their skin.

Grooming
Hair trimming, coat brushing and nail clipping are considered as key tasks for grooming pets. However, if you are doing it for the first time then refrain from nail clipping and choose nail filing. Experts suggest keeping a styptic powder handy in case of accidents which will help in the healing of minor cuts while nail clipping. Regarding hair trimming, go gradually, minute by minute with utmost care. Once you will be pro with hair trimming, you’d enjoy it. When it comes to coat brushing, do that once a week. For teeth brushing, it can be done in two days.
Buying the leash
The leash is a very important piece of equipment for pets, especially dogs. One has to factor in various parameters while deciding to buy a leash. For instance, the strength of your Dog- If your dog is bigger and carries more weight, then go for a more strong, thick leash and vice versa. If you are in a training period with your Dog and you are teaching them to sit or walk then you need to have more control in hand for which a shorter leash will be helpful. In case you want more mobility for your Dog then longer leashes will give them more freedom. Since we are in lockdown and your furry friends will be craving lush green gardens to hop and run on, take out some time for a casual strolling on the terrace where they can have free time without a leash.

Get rid of fleas
Fleas are a common problem in pets that need immediate attention to not let them aggravate. One needs to check for fleas on their furry friends and if you spot early signs in a pet, like itching, scratching or licking, then take immediate action. To get rid of fleas, especially when your pets are spending way too much time at home, deep cleaning is key. Clean your home, especially the furniture and resting area of your pet once a week with a vacuum. Throw away the dirt to stop flea growth. Check on all moist places which are probable areas of flea larvae and clean them up. After a deep cleaning of furniture, floor, pet bedding and carpets, sprinkle natural flea powder and sprays rather than the ones that have chemicals. Carefully look for instructions before using such organic flea fighting formulas. There are many cat flea collars available in markets, however, one needs to contact a veterinarian before using such flea combat equipment.
