How can we keep calm and carry on? when Indian cinema made history globally by winning two oscar awards at the 95th Academy Awards. This year, for the Oscars not just one but three significant Indian movies, were nominated including RRR for Best Original Song, The Elephant Whisperers for the Best documentary short film, and All that breathes for the Best documentary feature film. However, two of them such as RRR’s Naatu Naatu song and Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperers managed to bring the most prestigious award home (India). The 95th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre in L.A. and were telecasted in India early morning on 13 March.
This year’s Oscars were also special for one another reason, one of the most beautiful and talented actresses of Bollywood Deepika Padukone was also invited to the Academy Awards as a presenter. She shared the stage with Dwayne Johnson, Riz Ahmed, Glenn Close, Michael B. Jordan, Emily Blunt, Troy Kotsur, Jennifer Connely, Melissa McCarthy, Samuel L Jackson, Jonathan Majors, Zoe Saldana, and Questlove.
To accept the award for RRR’s Naatu Naatu song, music composer MM Keeravaani and Lyricist Chandrabose came to the stage. This song became famous globally as soon as it releases and received lots of love both nationally and internationally. While receiving the Oscar, MM Keeravaani sang a self-composed song in his acceptance speech in honour of filmmaker SS Rajamouli and the entire nation. This year, Naatu Naatu also won the Gloden Globe awards and the Critics Choice awards in the same category. The filmmaker Rajamouli and movie lead actors Jr NTR and Ram Charan also attended the Award ceremony.
The next award went to the makers of The Elephant Whisperers for the Best Documentary Short Film category and accepting that award producer Gunnet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves came to the stage. While receiving the award, producer Guneet Monga gets teary-eyed. This 41-min documentary film story revolves around an orphan elephant and a south Indian couple who took care of that elephant. This movie shows a sweet bond between an animal and a human and also showcases the Indian culture and environment conservation tradition.
