From Wake Up Sid to Tamasha, these were the films where Ranbir Kapoor always had daddy issues in life before Animal.
Animal is all set to hit theatres on December 1, 2023, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol. As per the reports, Animal will focus on the daddy issues and on the son, who desperately wants his father’s validation of the work he does. After releasing the trailer, cine buffs started creating their own theories about the film. It would be interesting to see whose theory will land correctly.
But before Animal, there were several films that showed Daddy issues with Ranbir Kapoor’s character. Scroll down to read.
Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
Ranbir Kapoor is always known for his comedy films, and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is one of them. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani will always be our comfort film, which you can watch anytime, no matter where you are.
People talk about the chemistry between Kapoor and Kaif in the film, songs, and storyline, but they don’t notice that there is one subplot about his relationship with his father, who does not respect his son as he feels that his son is Nakaara (useless).
Sanju
Even though Sanju is a biopic of Sanjay Dutt, the way Ranbir Kapoor pulled off his character was unmatchable. Apart from showcasing different incidents from the life of Sanjay Dutt, Hirani also shows the turbulent relationship between father and son.
Sanju was released in 2018 with an ensemble cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Anushka Sharma, and Vicky Kaushal and was directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
Tamasha
If comedy films gave a boost to Ranbir’s career, then coming-of-age films show his true potential as an actor. Tamasha is a prime example of it. Tamasha is always a special film for those who opt for a different career instead of having an interest in some other fields and tells us that our outer personality is very different from our inner personality.
Tamasha shows us how Ranbir’s character is at loggerheads with his father over his career choice. It was released in 2015, and now the film has gained a cult following among cine buffs.
Wake Up Sid
Another film by Ranbir Kapoor tells the story of a rich, spoiled brat with no aim or focus in his life, which leads to a fallout with his father (played by Anupam Kher) over his doubtfulness and lack of aim in life.
Sid started changing himself when he met Aisha and started staying with her. After meeting Aisha, Sid started working on his own and got his life’s first paycheck for his work. Wake Up Sid is a perfect film for those children who are still dependent on their parents’ money and have no aim in life.
Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani
In an aspect of friendship and love relationships, this film taught us many things in life, but one aspect that got ignored was the father-son relationship. If you watched the film carefully, you have noticed that Kabir (played by Kapoor) always ignored his father (maybe he is not able to confront his father about his dream), and he had so much distance himself from his father that he did not even attend his father’s funeral.
Other films of Ranbir Kapoor with the same topic of Daddy issue are:
Rockstar, Jagga Jasoos, and Shamshera.
