Pretty much everyone has heard of ramen at least once in their life. The traditional way of making and serving ramen has appeared many times in your favourite anime. A perfect mixture of some tasteful noodles along with your preferred meat, some bamboo shoots, fresh chopped scallion and a mouth-watering broth is what usually makes good traditional ramen. Ramen can be found around every corner of Japan. Shoyu ramen, on the other hand, has a vast following in Tokyo. Shoyu means soy sauce in Japanese. 2. ONIGIRI- RICE BALLS

When we talk about Japanese food, we cannot miss out on Onigiri. This simple dish has been perfected by Japan and it is now a major part of their culture. Onigiri refers to rice balls. The surprise is usually inside an ordinary-looking rice ball. A savoury filling greets you from the inside when you take a bite of rice wrapped in a salty sheet of nori seaweed. It is majorly a part of Japanese bento lunch and can also be found easily in stores around Japan. If you are looking for a light meal, this can be your go-to snack.

3. SUKIYAKI
Sukiyaki is a seasonal cuisine in Japan. The delicious-looking meal is prepared in a shallow iron pan which encompasses a variety of flavorful veggies. It is commonly enjoyed in fall and winter. 4. UDON WHEAT NOODLES
The uniqueness of Udon lies in its thick noodles, making it a very popular traditional dish in Japan. Flour and seawater are used to make the authentic dough which is then cut into thick noodles. After this, the noodles are boiled in hot water and enjoyed with seafood broth. To add more complexity, people also top their noodles with soup or toppings like tempura. 5. TEMPURA
Tempura is a famous Japanese snack that can also be used as a topping for various foods like Udon in the previous section. Although Japanese cuisine does not include the deep-frying process much, this is probably one of the very few dishes where Japan uses a lot of oil. Tempura involves seafood, meat and vegetables, covered in batter and deep-fried in oil. This famous batter is usually flour and egg, giving Tempura the much-needed crunch. This dish is commonly sided with Tentsuyu which is a sauce made with broth from kombu or dried bonito, mirin and soy sauce. You can also add ginger or radish to give it a personalized touch. 6. MISO SOUP
Among other dishes, Miso Soup of Japan is considered to be the healthiest. So much so that Japanese locals prefer and suggest drinking this soup daily. You can drink this soup with other side or main dishes. Miso soup can be prepared with fermented miso base added to Japanese Dashi which is a conventional mixture of bonito and kelp. However, there are regional variety of Miso soup, each with a different texture and taste. Some may prefer adding seaweed while some may prefer adding a variety of vegetables.
